The history of the quarter Rybáře – Karlovy Vary

Rybáře in Karlovy Vary was always devoted to fish and fishing. The fish shop Neptun was very famous and well-known. Karl Knoll founded a hatchery in 1842 and 6 years later he founded a very famous porcelain factory and Japanese pavilion. Now there is water center Rolava. The Knolls founded in Rybáře a factory producing stoves. They also introduced electric current and telephone.

Significant technical sight in Rybáře is Weber´s brewery from 1879 which is closed now. In 1870 a railway was introduced to Karlovy Vary which meant the major expansion of Rybáře. Famous visitors such as J.W.Goethe, the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph or the Austrian empress Elisabeth, called Sissi were going through Rybáře. Rybáře was the entrance hall through which guests entered Karlovy Vary.
